Abstract

The present research compared adolescents in two different work systems, evaluating the opinion of the adolescents and their families about work, investigating the coping strategies used by the adolescent. The sample was composed by 116 adolescents between 14 and 17 years old (58 workers in regular system and 58 workers in educational system). The instruments used were a demographic questionnaire and a semistructured interview about coping. The data indicated that most of the adolescents, in both groups, used the stressor modification as main coping strategy, while evaluated their work favorably because of the financial return. However, though most of the families of adolescents in the regular system considered the working experience as a financial resource, most of the families of adolescents in the educational system stressed the educational aspect of the working experience.
