The Management Bias: from Science to Innovation

This thematic issue examines the growing influence of managerial discourse on science, research, and innovation, conceptualized as a pervasive management bias. Moving beyond views of management as a neutral set of tools, the issue invites critical, historical, and interdisciplinary analyses of how managerial logics shape knowledge production, innovation policy, governance, evaluation regimes, and institutional practices. Contributions are encouraged to interrogate the epistemic, normative, cognitive, and affective dimensions of managerialism, as well as to explore alternatives that challenge efficiency-driven, market-oriented imaginaries in favor of more plural, reflexive, and socially grounded approaches to innovation.

Timeline: Abstract proposals are due by 2 April 2026, full papers by 1 July 2026, revised versions by 1 November 2026, with publication scheduled for March 2027.

Proposal submissions should be sent by e-mail to: novation@ufpr.br

The Helix Framework and Beyond. Genealogies, Metaphors and Governance in STI Policy

This thematic issue invites critical and historically informed contributions on Helix-based frameworks in science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy. Moving beyond descriptive or celebratory uses of the Triple, Quadruple, Quintuple, and Sextuple Helix models, the issue examines their conceptual genealogies, metaphorical foundations, and governance implications, situating them within broader debates on innovation ecosystems, biologistic metaphors, and policy design. Contributions are encouraged to explore how Helix models are adopted, adapted, contested, or reimagined across different territorial, institutional, and socio-political contexts, with particular attention to power asymmetries, democratic governance, and sustainability.

Timeline: Abstracts are due by 2 March 2026, full papers by 1 May 2026, revised versions by 1 September 2026, with publication scheduled for December 2026.
