Journal History

The International Journal NOvation – Critical Studies of Innovation is underway to contribute to the rethinking and debunking of innovation narratives in both the interdisciplinary STSScience, Technology and Society, and the wide array of STI Science, Technology, and Innovation disciplinary fields.

Our first steps date back to April 2017, where this endeavour was already in perspective with Benoît Godin (INRS, Montreal) and Dominique Vinck (UNIL, Lausanne) book (2017), entitled “Critical Studies of Innovation. Alternative Approaches to the Pro-Innovation Bias” (Edward Elgar). From then, a first Issue was proposed: “X-innovation: Re-inventing Innovation Again and Again” (with B. Godin, G. Gaglio and S. Pfotenhauer as organizers), in the meanwhile launched in 2019 (June).

Since January 2021, after our first Editor-in-Chief passed away, the Journal has been running collectively, counting on our Managing Editor and several members of the Editorial Board to publish two more issues. On April 2023 the journal came finally to migrate to a new host platform, in Brazil, the Federal University of Paraná. Based in Curitiba, Southern Brazil, NOvation maintains the same spirit of pushing forward the critical studies of innovation research agenda.
