Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not being evaluated for publication by another journal; otherwise, it must be justified in "Comments to the editor".

  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format.

  • URLs for references were provided where possible.

  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in the Guidelines for Authors, on the About the Journal page.
  • In case of submission to a section with peer review (example articles), the instructions available in Ensuring blind peer review were followed.

Author Guidelines

Guaju is a free journal, charging no submission or publication fees of any kind. The articles published are the sole responsibility of their authors. The opinions expressed in them do not necessarily express the point of view of the Universidade Federal do Paraná.

The articles must be unpublished. In special cases, upon evaluation by the editors, manuscripts presented and/or published in conference proceedings may be accepted for submission. Guaju only receives manuscripts sent and submitted through the Open Journal System (OJS), the system used by the Digital Journal Library (BDP) at UFPR. 

For evaluation and publication in Guaju, manuscripts will be accepted if they fit into the theme and editorial policy of the Journal, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, in the following categories:

Articles: 

This section contains scientific articles resulting from research and other studies carried out with an interface in the journal's focus and scope. Manuscripts may be published in Portuguese, Spanish or English. It should contain between 12 and 25 pages, including title, abstract with up to 250 words and three to five keywords in the original language of the manuscript separated by semicolon ";" and in Portuguese and English, as well as tables, figures and references. The font should be Candara or Times New Roman, size 12, alignment: Justified, line spacing: 1.5; margin: top and left 3 cm; bottom and right 2 cm; Italics: used for words and/or expressions in foreign languages that have not been dictionarized in Portuguese, titles of books and periodicals; bold: used for titles and subtitles; quotation marks: used in direct quotations of up to 40 words. To preserve anonymity, the identification of authorship is restricted to the registration form in the article submission system. There should be no identification of the author(s) throughout the article. The norms of citation, reference and formatting of charts, tables and illustrations should follow the ABNT norms.

Reviews: 

In this section, manuscripts will be accepted if they deal with the completion of summaries of books relevant to the area of Guaju's focus and scope. Reviews of current books, books published in the last five years, and reviews of classic books in the journal's area may be considered by the editors. Manuscripts may be published in Portuguese, Spanish or English. The work should range from 3 to 5 pages, including title, abstract with up to 250 words and three to five keywords in the original language of the manuscript separated by a semicolon ";" in the original language of the manuscript and in Portuguese and English, as well as tables, figures and references. The font should be Candara or Time New Roman, size 12, alignment: Justified, line spacing: 1.5; margin: top and left 3 cm; bottom and right 2 cm; Italics: used for words and/or expressions in a foreign language that have not been dictionarized in Portuguese, titles of books and periodicals; bold: used for titles and subtitles; quotation marks: used in direct quotations of up to 40 words. To preserve anonymity, the identification of authorship is restricted to the registration form in the article submission system. There should be no identification of the author(s) throughout the article. The norms of citation, reference and formatting of charts, tables and illustrations should follow the ABNT norms.

Essays:

Reflective, analytical and critical texts on issues related to the journal's theme, constructed in a logical, coherent and opinionated manner. Papers that make use of systematic reviews, scoping reviews, bibliometric studies, among other studies, may be submitted in this section. It should have from 12 to 25 pages, including title, abstract with up to 250 words and three to five keywords in the original language of the manuscript separated by a semicolon ";" and in Portuguese and English, as well as tables, figures and references. The font should be Candara or Times New Roman, size 12, alignment: Justified, line spacing: 1.5; margin: top and left 3 cm; bottom and right 2 cm; Italics: used for words and/or expressions in foreign languages that have not been dictionarized in Portuguese, titles of books and periodicals; bold: used for titles and subtitles; quotation marks: used in direct quotations of up to 40 words. To preserve anonymity, the identification of authorship is restricted to the registration form in the article submission system. There should be no identification of the author(s) throughout the article. The norms of citation, reference and formatting of charts, tables and illustrations should follow the ABNT norms.

Practice Reports:

In this section a special place is reserved for studies carried out through supervised internships, extension activities and practical work that report the activities and empirical experiences of professionals and students. It should have from 10 to 15 pages, including the title, an abstract with up to 250 words and three to five keywords in the original language of the manuscript separated by a semicolon ";" in the original language of the manuscript and in Portuguese and English, as well as tables, figures and references. The font should be Candara or Times New Roman, size 12, alignment: Justified, line spacing: 1.5; margin: top and left 3 cm; bottom and right 2 cm; Italics: used for words and/or expressions in foreign languages that have not been dictionarized in Portuguese, titles of books and periodicals; bold: used for titles and subtitles; quotation marks: used in direct quotations of up to 40 words. To preserve anonymity, the identification of authorship is restricted to the registration form in the article submission system. There should be no identification of the author(s) throughout the article. The norms of citation, reference and formatting of charts, tables and illustrations should follow the ABNT norms.

Observation: 

Up to two manuscripts may be submitted per author in a one-year period, regardless of authorship position. The maximum number of authors per article is four, but permission for a larger number may be evaluated by the editors. 

Guaju preferably accepts articles written by PhD holders. PhD and MSc students are encouraged to submit articles as authors and co-authors, provided that they are accompanied by a PhD author. Undergraduate and Master's students may appear as co-authors, provided that the text is the result of theoretical reflections or research carried out under the supervision of a doctoral researcher, who must appear as one of the authors. Special cases will be analyzed by the editors. 

Changes (inclusion and substitution) in authorship will not be permitted after the desk review and double blind review stages.

The bibliographical references must be presented at the end of the paper, listed in alphabetical order, following the ABNTmodel as well as the following model:

Conjunto de manuscritos ou artigos importantes que tratam de tema específico e definido pelos editores e/ou parceiros da Guaju.

Artigos

Nessa seção constam artigos científicos resultado de pesquisas e demais estudos realizados com interface no foco e escopo da revista.

Ensaios

Textos reflexivos, analíticos e críticos sobre questões relacionadas à temática da revista, construídos de forma lógica, coerente e opinativa. Poderão ser submetidos nessa seção trabalhos que se utilizem de revisões sistemáticas, revisões de escopo, bibliometrias, dentre outros estudos.

Relatos de Práticas

Nessa seção é reservado um espaço especial aos estudos realizados por meio de estágios supervisionados, atividades de extensão e trabalhos práticos que relatem as atividades e experiências empíricas de profissionais e estudantes.

Resenhas

Nessa seção serão aceitos manuscritos que tratem da realização de sínteses de livros relevantes para a área do foco e escopo da Guaju. Aceitar-se-ão resenhas de livros atuais, livros publicados nos últimos cinco anos, podendo ser avaliado pelos editores a possibilidades de resenhas de livros clássicos da área da revista.

Conferências

Artigos ou manuscritos resultantes de reflexões e debates em conferências, simpósios, encontros e demais eventos da área foco e escopo da Guaju.
