Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the knowledge, doubts, and the use of contraceptive methods amongadolescents from a public school in the city of São Paulo, SP, Brazil. A descriptive-exploratory study was carried out anddata were collected using a questionnaire. Results demonstrated that the adolescents consider properly their knowledgeabout contraception. Male and female condom, the next-day pill and pill are the most known methods. Regarding tosexarca, for 18.7% of the interviewees it occurred between 12 and 13 years-old. 64.3% used condom in the first sexualintercourse, but only 42.9% keep their use in subsequent sexual intercourses. The reported doubts from the intervieweesspecially refer to the efficacy of the methods. It was concluded that the knowledge of the participants is insufficient anda gradual and constant sexual orientation offered by school is needed, and is also necessary the training of the teachers.
