Abstract

This work aims to study the application of native Amescla wood (Trattinnickia burserifolia Mart.) for the manufacturing of Glulam, considering the hypothesis of the influence of the adhesive and applied pressure in the manufacturing process. The study's objective is to compare the shear strength at the bond line in Amescla Glulam bonded with different adhesives and pressures. Four treatments with 6 replications each were performed, namely: T1 (0.8 MPa, PVAc); T2 (1.2 MPa, PVAc); T3 (0.8 MPa, PUR); and T4 (1.2 MPa, PUR). The moisture content, apparent densities, shear strength at the bond line, and wood failure percentage were measured. The mean values for moisture content and apparent densities showed no statistically significant difference between the treatments. The mean values for shear strength at the bond line showed no statistical difference between the treatments, with averages between 6.66 MPa and 7.29 MPa. The wood failure percentage was higher than the bond line failure percentage. However, the treatments with a pressure of 1.2 MPa showed a higher percentage of failure in the bond line compared to the treatments with a pressure of 0.8 MPa. It is concluded that the Amescla Glulam presents results that demonstrate potential for application based on the parameters used.
