Elaboration of Cartographic Documents under Participatory Mapping Optics

This paper presents the results of a research that aimed at using the concepts of the theory of cognition in the representation and cartographic visualization, under participatory mapping optics, so as to produce cartographic documents. To reach these objectives, cartographic documents were elaborated, from the understanding
of the user, and the results of the application of cartographic education resources in the quilombola territory of Castainho, in Garanhuns – PE. From the preliminary process of cartographic education, a three dimensional model and a participatory map were constructed by the users. The results evidenced the importance of
understanding spatial information and the potentiality of its use for the management of territory by the community.
