Quality education in the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda to combat prejudice against the LGBTQIA+ population: a parallel between academic production and university libraries

Abstract

Introduction: The work aims to contribute to the understanding of possible strategies to reduce prejudice against the LGBTQIA+ population, through Education, based on the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which is Quality Education, of the 2030 Agenda, materializing through proposals for socio-educational actions about the population mentioned in university libraries, contained in academic production in Brazilian literature within the thematic angle between Education, Librarianship and Information Science. Method: The research has a bibliographic and exploratory focus, carried out through a referential survey in the Data Base in Information Science (BRAPCI), making use of the Content Analysis technique to identify the subjects related to the investigation themes, in order to map proposals for actions that can be performed in university libraries on the subject in the national territory. Results: The searches returned few results of academic production on the LGBTQIA+ population in Information Science and Librarianship, so that there was no substantial material that addressed practices in the university library environment aimed at this population within the Brazilian context, but also point out to possible actions replicable in university libraries for the decreasing of LGBTphobia. Conclusion: There is a lack of initiatives for activities and actions in libraries aimed at LGBTQIA+ people in the identified literature, and, from this perspective, there is an urgent need to foster discussions on the subject, linking it to the core of sustainable development, with the intention to contributing to debates to minimize prejudice against social minorities.
