Introduction: Information Governance is one of the unique propositions that characterize the dual facet of Information Science: as a pure science and as an applied science. The pure dimension of governance concerns the foundations it proposes in the development of the field, while the applied dimension is concerned with governance practices and their impact on the organizational and business environment. Objective: The research aims to analyze the fundamentals of information governance and its correlations with corporate and IT governance. It presents the problem of information asymmetries associated with corporate governance practices and models, including the limitations of IT governance, particularly due to the objectivist focus of information. Method: The research is explanatory and qualitative, based on bibliographic research. Results: It was found that information governance is an essential approach to eliminating unequal flows of access to information and decision-making, ensuring that all participants in organizational transactions can engage in the subjective and semantic process of adding value to information for organizational strengthening. Conclusions: It is concluded that information governance incorporates topics of interest to Information Science, particularly those concerning the idea of information value, knowledge construction, information literacy, information management, information mediation, data security, and information privacy. Future studies associating each of these topics with information governance are needed.
