Abstract

This article is the result of a work developed and presented in a discipline of the Specialization Course in Nursing Regarding the care of the Family, Federal University of Santa Catarina - Brasil. It has as main aim to show the interview as an interesting methodological instrument to get to know the family under the vital cycle perspective as well as a strategy that allows taking care of the family. It was carried out a semi-structured interview with a family in phase of expansion, while a home visit was carried out by the nurse, in the community where the health unit is located. Aspects related to the structure and family dynamics were approached as well as the routines and everyday rituals of the family and the performance of the family roles, the process of transition of the phase in the family history and also the rituals and routines of health care adopted by the family.
