O presente artigo busca reconstruir os elementos centrais da viagem de Karl Loewenstein à América Latina, com especial atenção à sua experiência no Brasil do Estado Novo. O intuito é descortinar elementos até então inéditos da viagem que Loewenstein fez à América do Sul entre fevereiro e agosto de 1941, através da qual publicou seu livro clássico Brazil under Vargas (1942). A fonte utilizada para a análise é a coleção The Karl Loewenstein Papers, material de grande relevância documental até então inédito no debate historiográfico brasileiro.
