Abstract

According to Plotinus, "it is necessary to ascend again to the Good, desire of every soul" (En. I, 6, 7, 1-2). Indeed, we find in the Enneads some interesting texts about this ascension of the soul towards the Intellect and the One. It is not clear, although, what is the nature of this ascension: Plotinus writes about different aspects of the process in different texts. In this paper I try to analyse some of this aspects, thinking the ascension as awakening, orientation of the faculties of the soul, interiorization and conversion.
