Resumo

This paper seeks to identify what constitutes social irrationality within the Habermasian framework. The discussion is structured in two parts: first, I delineate the definitions of rationality and irrationality in Habermas's work. I argue that while social rationality and irrationality are most prominent within the intersubjective world and the sphere of communicative rationality, they are also identifiable within the domains of epistemic and teleological rationality. Second, I examine the extent to which Habermas’s concept of rationality offers answers to practical issues arising from social irrationality.
