MORFOSEDIMENTARY DYNAMICS ASSOCIATED TO FRONTAL METEOROLOGICAL SYSTEMS ON TWO BEACHES OF PARANÁ STATE

Abstract

The goal of this work is to contribute to the understanding of the coastal dynamics and to offer some scientificelements for the planning and management for the use and occupation of some sections of the coastal zone ofthe State of Paraná. To do that, the characterization of the morphology and dynamics of two sandy beaches wasperformed, correlating them with the incidence of frontal meteorological systems acting on the area. The increase ofthe wave action, which results from the passage of some frontal systems, seems to be the largest regulator of thecoastal dynamics of these Southern Brazilian beaches, The effects of such phenomena are a significant problemwhen affecting populated areas of the coasts of Paraná. The characterization of the beaches was accomplishedthrough twelve monthly leveling surveys on two beaches, covering more than a year of samplings, only lackinga few months when the samplings where not feasible due to operational problems. These profiles were obtainedfor both aerial and submerged part of the beaches, using for the latter a new developed methodology that ispresented in this dissertation in full article form. With the aid of the Bulletins of Frontals Systems and Bulletinsof Notorious Events - Cases of Marine Agitation of Great Impact in South America, available at the web pageof the System of Waves Forecast - INPE/CPTEC, it was possible to monitor the incidence and frequency ofthese events. Based in the obtained results, it was possible to present some suggestions and recommendationsfor further works in this field, which, in the near future, could minimize the current problems of the interactionbetween coastal dynamics and human occupation of the coastal zone, problems that have become common in the coast of the State of Paraná.
