The objective of this article was to make a comparative analysis ofsocioeconomic indicators between the cities identified as a cluster of the furnitureindustry and other municipalities in the Sao Paulo State, producing furniture, butnot characterized as clusters. The methodology included determining theLocational ratio, to define the two sets of municipalities - of clusters and of nonclusters;the spatial analysis; and the analysis of beta-absolute and conditionalconvergence of income. The results show that both groups have significant valuesfor the trend of convergence to their respective state between the years 1991 and2000. The difference in magnitude of these values is given by calculating thespeed of convergence and values of half-life. The analysis of changing economicindicators confirmed the difference in the dynamics of the two groups, and themunicipalities belonging to the cluster group had a more significant improvementin their indicators in comparison to the other group.Downloads
