O objetivo desse trabalho é analisar o papel da oferta de trabalho na determinação dos retornos à escolaridade, usando como ilustração dados da região Sul do Brasil. Esse trabalho parte da hipótese que a omissão da oferta de trabalho nos modelos que determinam o retorno à educação podem superestimar o papel da escolaridade. A amostra foi selecionada a partir da PNAD (Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra a Domicílio) e inclui homens, com idade entre 15 e 65 anos e que estejam ocupados. Excluíram-se as mulheres da amostra por causa das especificidades da participação feminina no mercado de trabalho. Assim, foram estimados os retornos à educação baseados na equação minceriana dos salários incluindo a oferta de trabalho como variável explicativa. Os resultados indicam que a inclusão da oferta afeta as estimativas de retorno à educação, sugerindo a relevância desse fator.
