Focus and Scope

The Journal of Constitutional Research is a four-monthly scientific publication promoted by NINC – Núcleo de Investigações Constitucionais (Constitutional Research Group) of the UFPR (Federal University of Paraná) Master of Laws and Doctorate in Law Programs. Its main objective is publishing excelling law articles, both from national and foreign Constitutional Law scholars, and to reach scholars, researchers and law students in different countries interested in Constitutional Law, by publishing papers in English and other languages.

The journal’s editorial line follows the main research areas developed by the research group (NINC), with focus on the critic study of Constitutional Law and legal and political institutions, and their connections with democracy, state intervention, fundamental rights and theories of justice, with particular emphasis on issues inserted into the contact points with fields of Public Law intimately connected with Constitutional Law, such as Administrative Law, Electoral Law and Theory of the State.

Peer Review Process

Articles are submitted to a double blind peer review process. Articles are sent in anonimity to two ad hoc referees with doctoral degrees, all of them exogenous to the Institution that promotes the Journal (UFPR) and to the State of Paraná (Brazil). The referees are all Professors that hold a PhD, affiliated to national and foreign renowned universities. The evaluation process usually takes from 2 to 6 months.


Publication Frequency

The Journal publishes three issues per year, released every four months, which together make up a volume. Each article is published as part of an issue with its own Table of Contents. The publication scheduling is one issue every 4 months:

  • Issue n. 1 (January/April): published on January
  • Issue n. 2 (May/August): published on May
  • Issue n. 3 (September/December): published on September


Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content following the principle that scientific knowledge freely available to the public supports a greater democratization of knowledge worldwide.



This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and allows them to create permanent archives of the journal for the preservation and restoration. Learn more...


Ethical Policy

The studies that involve experiments with human beings or animals shall be in compliance with the Helsinki Declaration (1964) and the Resolution n. 466/12 from Health National Council (CNS, in Portuguese). The articles which describe experimental techniques with a risk of damage in human beings must include a declaration that they were done with the understanding and consent of human subjects, as well as the opinion of the Ethics Committee responsible for approving the experiments. In every case of experiences with animals, the authors must provide the opinion of the Ethics Committee on Animal Use. In case of international studies, a full description of any anesthetic and surgical procedure used and a proof that all regular steps were accomplished to prevent animal suffer in each phase of the experience are required.
